How To Lose Stomach Fat – My Story

A frequently asked question by anyone aspiring to get fit and make positive changes is how do you get a six pack?  My name is James and my website hopes to answer that question by revealing my story on how I went from having an average torso with no definition in my abs to burning off that layer of fat and getting the abs I have tried so long to obtain.  I work 9-5 in an office and know only too well the difficulties in trying to get ripped abs when you can’t find the time and sitting on your ass all day!

So  many articles and sites will claim that you need to do X amounts of this type of crunches and X amount of this type of leg raises, but what it comes down to is that if you do not reduce your body fat to get the layer of fat off your stomach you will never get visible abs.  When I was looking for quick ways to get a six pack I tried many different techniques but found the most effective way was to combine the best abs exercises with cardio, and diet and nutrition; maximising my protein intake, reducing my fat and calorie intake and burning off body fat through sport or cardio activities.

To get the knowledge which helped me to lose weight and good defined abs I found a product called The Truth About Six Pack Abs by Mike Geary, a professional fitness trainer who has written the best guide in the market on how to get a six pack.  He claims the best way to lose weight is to lose body fat, and combines professional diet & nutrition advice with cardio and abdominal exercises.

I’m sure that like me, you may have wasted plenty of hours doing thousands of crunches but still looking for quick ways to get a six pack because you couldn’t get visible abs.  The author is honest about what you can achieve through hard work and dedication.  He shoots down the myths that you can get a six pack in a week but gives good advice and techniques that you will value all your life, because if you follow his methods you will get results.  The routines require workouts only 3 days a week and there is a simple formula for your nutrition needs requiring 6 meals a day.

If you want to know how to lose stomach fat and for the fastest way to get a six pack, then do what I did and check out The Truth About Six Pack Abs.

The Top Exercises for Six Pack Abs

If you’ve read my other articles you will see I have stressed the importance of maintaining a good diet and doing the right amount of exercise and cardio when trying ways to get a six pack, but just as important as this is performing the right exercises to build muslce and get ripped abs.  Important note – the majority of back injuries are built up slowly over time and over doing spine straining core exercises contributes to this, so be careful to perform these exercises correctly!

Reaching crunch on swiss ball – Sit on a swiss ball with feet shoulder width apart and lean back so your back is parralel with the floor and raise your arms towards the ceiling.  Perform a crunch whilst keeping arms pointing towards the ceiling.  Hold and repeat 10 times.

Twist and crunch – place a mat on the floor and lie down on your back with your legs raised perpendicular with the floor, with your hands behind your ears.  Bring your right elbow across twisting your torso to to touch your left knee, hold and return to start.  Repeat 10 times, this really helps working the obliques and each side of your abs.  You can vary the crunch by doing decline crunches on a decline bench which works the lower abs.

Leg raises – lie on a flat bench holding the top of the bench behind your head.  Slowly raise your legs from parralel with the floor to a 90 degree angle, hold and return to the start, repeat 10 times.  You can also add a light weight to hold between your feet for better results, this is probably my favourite and the fastest way to get a six pack.

Hanging leg raises – Find a pull up bar or anything similar and hang from your hands, raise your legs so they are parrelel with the floor and hold for 3 seconds, return to start and repeat 10 times.

The plank – a very popular exercise, assume a pushup position but rest on your forearms, your body should be straight and parralel with the floor.  Tense your abs and hold the position for 1 minute, rest briefly and start again.

Weighted side raise – stand with your feet a little more than shoulder width apart and a medium weight in one hand.  The weight should be heavy enough for you to feel a strain when performing the exercise.  Lower weight in your hand, running down the side of your leg, pull your body back up to the start position and repeat 10 times.  This should work the side of your torso and your obliques.

There are other exercises you can perform to help build your abs but when I was looking for quick ways to get a six pack I found this work out was the most intense and gave the best results!

Principles of Getting A Six Pack

So, how do you get a six pack?  So many of us are wondering what are we doing wrong when it comes to getting a ripped torso because we spend so much time and energy at home and in the gym doing crunches, but are we making vital mistakes? You can achieve your goals of getting great abs if you follow the main principles of getting a six pack:

Drink your way to a six pack – No I don’t mean cracking open a  few beers, water can be one of the most important factors in getting a good torso, the body can mistake thirst for hunger which makes people eat more to satisfy the feeling, increasing calorie intake when really the body needs water.

Cut back on calories – cutting calories from your diet means the body senses this change and burns stored fat for energy, an important tip and probably the fastest way to get a six pack.

Hold your breath – one of the biggest myths in working out is to exhale whilst performing an exercise, an important principle of getting a six pack is to hold your breath whilst doing crunches as this allows your abs to tense.

Protein – so important to repair and build muscle, a high protein intake with a low carb snack burns 21% more fat than a sugary post workout drink.  This releases more amino acids which boosts your metabolic rate reducing fat.

Breakfast – we’ve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, this could not be more true if you are looking for quick ways to get a six pack.  Those that skip breakfast are more likely to have unhealthy snacks throughout the day.

Intensity – I found (and also backed up by studies) that shorter intense workouts can give a 20% reduction in abdominal compared with longer more moderate workouts, the lesson here is you can save so much time and perform short intense sessions in the gym!

If you are looking for quick ways to get a six pack then following these principles will massively help you achieve your goal, all it takes is the knowledge, motivation and discipline and you can enjoy the benefits of having great abs!

Abs are made in the kitchen – this could not be more true when looking for quick ways to get a six pack, remember the saying ‘you are what you eat’? This is the main reason people cannot get definition, it doesn’t matter how many crunches or exercises you do, if you are eating high calorie and high carb foods adding fat and not burning this off you will always struggle to get the abs you want. The post workout meal – the most important food of the day if you are wondering how do you get a six pack. After my work outs I make sure I eat plenty of protein to help repair and build the muscles, if you neglect feeding your muscles with protein then you will struggle to get a six pack.

Cardio – When I was looking for ways to get a six pack I found cardio was massively important at burning body fat which is needed to get definiion on your abs. My favourite activity was swimming as this burns the most calories but if you are going to maintain the cardio part of your workout it has to be something you enjoy, sport, cycling, running whatever it is if you enjoy it then a few hours a week will help you get a six pack fast.

Abdominal Excercise – Diet and cardio are great ways to get a six pack but if you are wanting abs to impress then you need to do the exercises to sculpt your torso. I found that performing different intense combinations of abs exercises and crunches and adding a weight to this got the best results.
